We are currently seeking a full-time Sous Chef to join our culinary team at the University of Nevada Reno. This is an hourly position with a competitive pay rate of $24.25 per hour and a schedule from Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. As a Sous Chef, you will play a crucial role in assisting the Executive Chef with preparing and cooking food while ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen during everyday activities. This role goes beyond culinary creativity; it also requires strong leadership skills to supervise the kitchen staff, maintain food safety and sanitation standards, and guarantee the timely preparation of meals. The Sous Chef will coordinate activities of cooks and other food-service associates, ensuring that all food is prepared according to approved recipes and production standards. Supervising hourly associates including interviewing, scheduling, training, payroll, counseling, and participating in performance reviews is a significant part of the role. Maintaining proper food handling, presentation, and portion control along with sanitation of equipment and workspaces is essential to uphold the highest standards of kitchen safety and quality. In addition to the hands-on cooking and supervision, the Sous Chef will manage inventory and deliveries, track product production, consumption, and waste, and report supply statuses to the supervisor. The role requires interaction with customers to address and resolve complaints in a service-oriented manner and providing thorough explanations of daily menu items. Staffing and managing peak production hours effectively while ensuring compliance with all corporate, state, and federal food safety regulations are part of everyday duties.
