Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) is a well-established public university founded in 1965 with a mission to serve students who have traditionally been underrepresented in higher education. As the third largest public institution of higher education in Colorado, MSU Denver enrolls over 16,000 diverse students and is recognized for its inclusive and flexible educational environment. It is a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and the only institution in Colorado certified with the Seal of Excelencia, which underlines its commitment to serving a diverse student body including many first-generation college students. The university provides affordable and holistic education fostering essential skills grounded in multicultural and global perspectives, preparing students for academic, career, and life success. Within MSU Denver, the School of Hospitality offers unique educational opportunities across multiple disciplines including four majors, one minor, and six certificate programs. Notably, it features innovative facilities such as a LEED Gold certified SpringHill Suites hotel, a commercial conference space, a cutting-edge beverage testing laboratory, a commercial restaurant, the Day Leadership Academy, and the Charlie Papazian Brewing Education Lab. This progressive infrastructure provides students and faculty with hands-on learning infused with sustainability and industry standards. The School of Hospitality seeks to enhance its academic excellence by inviting applications for temporary, part-time affiliate faculty teaching positions. These are non-tenure track roles, typically semester-based and contingent upon departmental needs. Candidates will be expected to teach 3 or more credit hours per semester, focusing on courses related to wine fundamentals, beer and spirits, enology, and wine and food pairing, among others. A core expectation is the ability to engage effectively with a diverse student population, incorporating technology into instructional methods and providing accessible academic support through consultation. Affiliate faculty members will primarily be responsible for delivering scheduled courses either in person or online, preparing course materials and lesson plans, grading assignments, and providing timely, constructive feedback to students. Compliance with university policies on student evaluations and peer observations is required. The role also encourages adaptability to new teaching methodologies and sensitivity to the diverse educational needs of the student body. Candidates must meet rigorous qualifications, including a Master’s degree in the field of teaching or a Bachelor’s degree paired with substantial, professional hospitality experience—generally at least ten years, featuring increasing responsibility and supervisory roles. Preference is given to those with nationally recognized certifications such as various levels of Sommelier or Cicerone licenses. Compensation is determined per credit hour in accordance with university policy and reflects the temporary, at-will nature of the appointments. While affiliate faculty are not eligible for traditional benefit coverage, they contribute significantly to the vibrant and inclusive academic community at MSU Denver. MSU Denver prides itself on fostering an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion, serving as a place where students and faculty from various backgrounds work together toward common goals. The university conducts thorough background checks for all final candidates to ensure a safe and secure learning environment. It provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities to uphold inclusivity throughout the application and employment processes. Interested applicants should submit comprehensive application materials including a resume, cover letter, transcripts, and professional references, following the university's application guidelines.
