The position of Baker at Hy-Vee is a vital role within the Bakery Department. This non-exempt role focuses on baking products to fulfill customer orders and replenish bakery displays, contributing directly to the store’s overall product quality and customer satisfaction. The Baker is responsible for maintaining a positive company image by offering courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service not only to customers but also to team members. The individual in this role will work closely with various management staff such as District Store Director, Store Manager, and Bakery Department Manager while guiding junior team members like Apprentice Bakers and Bakery Designers.
A Baker at Hy-Vee must demonstrate key core competencies including a growth mindset, professionalism, results orientation, and a strong customer focus. They are expected to manage orders effectively, prioritize departmental production schedules, and ensure constant freshness and compliance with food safety regulations. - Six months to one year of related experience in bakery or customer service
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently
- Capable of performing physical tasks including stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to temperature extremes, flour dust, noise and equipment hazards
- Ability to follow company policies and maintain professional hygiene and dress standards
- Availability to report to work as scheduled and on time
