The role of Cook at Mazzio's entails planning, preparing, and cooking a wide range of food items to deliver the highest quality meals to guests, whether dining in the restaurant, ordering carryout, or receiving delivery. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring that all food handling, sanitation, and storage procedures meet or exceed health and safety standards. The Cook is responsible for following precise recipes and measurement charts to maintain consistency and quality in every dish served. This role involves a variety of cooking techniques including baking, frying, and microwaving, as well as preparing ingredients such as salads, sauces, dough, cheeses, vegetables, and casseroles. Beyond cooking, the Cook maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen environment and food preparation areas, including washing, peeling, cutting, and shredding produce, and cleaning all utensils and equipment. In addition to food preparation, the Cook monitors kitchen temperatures using thermostats and ensures all equipment is functioning properly, reporting any issues to management. Accurate recording of product usage and waste is required to assist with inventory control and food cost management. This position also supports overall kitchen operations, which includes delivering clean plates, utensils, and glasses to service areas. Physical demands are significant, requiring the ability to lift, stand for extended periods, and work in a busy kitchen atmosphere that may expose the worker to heat, humidity, and other environmental factors. Mazzio's offers this position typically in shifts ranging from 8 to 12 hours, including potential split shifts, covering all mealtimes from early morning through late night.
