The role of a Ramp Agent involves multiple responsibilities that ensure the safety and efficiency of aircraft ground handling. This position requires a high level of physical activity, as you will be lifting, carrying, and moving heavy items regularly, and involves working in various weather conditions and at different airport locations. Ramp agents are responsible for safeguarding baggage, air cargo, and airmail from risks such as weather damage, loss, theft, or destruction. You will operate motorized equipment including belt loaders, pushback tugs, and lift trucks, coordinating closely with team members like wing walkers to ensure safe maneuvering around aircraft.
In addition to handling baggage and cargo, the role encompasses conducting accurate record-keeping and data entry related to operational tasks, demonstrating attention to detail and adherence to company procedures. The ramp agent must be capable of communicating clearly via radio or verbal instructions, ensuring smooth collaboration with crew members and ground staff. Safety is a paramount concern; therefore, completing ramp and Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) training is mandatory to obtain airport authority identification, permitting you to work in secure zones.
This role is best suited for individuals who are physically fit, able to handle demanding tasks such as walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working in confined or elevated spaces for extended periods. Candidates must have a valid in-state driver’s license, pass comprehensive background checks and drug screenings, and be authorized to work in the United States. - must be able to lift / carry / push / pull and move items of 70 pounds and/or more on a regular basis and repetitively lift weights of 40 to 50 pounds on raised surfaces
- must be able to walk, climb, bend, kneel, crawl, and stoop on a frequent basis and for extended periods
- must be able to work in cramped or high places
- must be able to carry heavy items up and down jet way stairs
