The General Manager I (GM I) position at HMSHost is a pivotal leadership role responsible for managing a single QSR restaurant or a small cluster of restaurant points-of-sale within Albany International Airport with sales typically up to $5 million annually. The GM oversees all aspects of restaurant operations to ensure the unit is clean, staffed, and operating efficiently and profitably. This position requires a highly skilled and experienced leader who exercises broad discretion and sound judgment in making leadership decisions that drive overall business success. The GM I is responsible for maintaining high operational, financial, and service standards, managing budgeting and profitability, and ensuring that all daily operational tasks, including opening and closing procedures, product availability, staff scheduling, and compliance with safety and sanitary regulations, are executed effectively. This role demands strong people management skills, as the GM I will recruit, coach, and develop restaurant staff while fostering an inclusive environment aligned with HMSHost’s diversity philosophy. The GM must ensure training programs are conducted for both new hires and ongoing employee development. Moreover, the GM I is expected to skillfully manage vendor relationships, supply chain logistics, and equipment maintenance to guarantee operational excellence. They will utilize technology systems including MIV, Crunch Time, and Kronos to analyze financial and operational reports and make data-driven decisions. The GM must also maintain brand standards and comply with landlord lease agreements and labor contracts. The position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act, reporting typically to a Director of Operations or area leader. Flexibility in working varied and rotating schedules is essential to oversee different shifts and busy periods. A successful candidate will demonstrate at least three years of restaurant P&L management experience, with a total of 5 to 7 years in the industry, preferably with exposure to QSR or similar restaurant types. Educational credit is available for graduates of Food Service Management or Culinary programs.
