The Maintenance & Operations Department at Edinburg CISD is currently seeking a Custodian to join the team at the Prospective High School Campus. This position is vital to maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the school buildings and grounds. The Custodian role is full-time, non-exempt, and hourly paid with a wage range of $15.25 to $19.32 per hour, working a 261-day schedule annually. Reporting directly to the School Principal, the custodian will be responsible for performing routine cleaning, minor maintenance, and ensuring that both interior and exterior areas meet high standards of safety and cleanliness.
This role requires someone who is detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently to complete various custodial and maintenance tasks according to established procedures. The custodian will handle tasks such as sweeping, mopping, trash removal, lawn care, minor repairs, and securing the facility after hours. Physical capabilities are important in this role due to its demands, including medium lifting, repetitive work, standing and walking for extended periods, climbing ladders up to 15 feet, and safely handling equipment and chemicals. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, preferred prior experience of six months in janitorial work or the ability to learn on the job, and the capability to interpret and follow safety protocols, school policies, and instructions.
Custodians play an essential role in creating a pleasant and safe learning environment by ensuring that the facilities are well-maintained and secure. The position requires working both indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions, adhering to safety guidelines while operating equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, lawn mowers, and custodial hand tools. This role also includes preparing cleaning solutions, applying wax coatings to floors, and reporting maintenance issues to the principal.
