Bowhead Marine Support Services is a specialized maritime support company dedicated to providing high-quality marine services to government and commercial clients. With a strong presence in coastal operations, Bowhead prides itself on safety, reliability, and mission success. Their expertise ranges from vessel operations to logistics support across various water-based environments. The company is known for its commitment to safe practices and skilled maritime personnel, supporting operations that require both technical proficiency and operational excellence. Bowhead serves a crucial role in supporting homeland security and other maritime missions, especially in the Gulf Coast region where maritime activity is vital to national security and economic stability. This part-time Captain position involves operating a 32-foot high-speed vessel, the M/V Andale, for training missions at the U.S. Coast Guard’s Aviation Training Center in Mobile Bay, located in Baldwin County, Fairhope, Alabama. The Captain will play a key role in supporting the readiness of Coast Guard aircrews by facilitating tactical boat maneuvers and aerial delivery recovery missions critical for pilot training in tactical maneuvering and search and rescue operations. This role demands a high level of seamanship, including shipboard operations and rigging for helicopter activities, emphasizing the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols. The Captain will be responsible for the preparation and safe operation of the vessel and its equipment, ensuring that each mission is conducted following all safety guidelines. This role demands rapid response capability, as it requires the Captain to be a local Baldwin County resident able to arrive promptly at the dock location. The vessel deployment involves complex operational procedures supporting Homeland Security's waterway missions, thus requiring precision and expertise. This opportunity not only supports the Coast Guard’s mission but also allows the Captain to engage in varied maritime environments — including ports, bays, and construction zones — making the role physically demanding and stimulating. Training, safety audits, drills, and meetings are integral facets of this position to maintain operational preparedness and compliance with safety standards. Essential physical demands include sitting, standing, balancing, lifting significant weights, and working in varying weather conditions. The role offers a unique chance to serve the nation by enhancing the capabilities of Coast Guard aviation operations, making it a highly responsible and respected maritime career opportunity.
